***Home away from home... January 25th -Feb3rd

Stayed at White Horse Hotel on Monday night after leaving chokoloskee island... Looked around most of day Monday and since we are here midseason did not find a place we felt was acceptable. This little Mom and Pop hotel is clean as a pin and the lady gave us a good deal on a weeks stay....Annette and I decided that we should consider this our home for a month and not a "vacation" since we cannot afford to live on the beach...especially in this part of Florida for an entire month. However... it is fitting our needs (except for the ocean view) very well. It is only a few minutes drive to multiple oceanside parks and plenty of stores and things to do. We are learning more every day. The weather is getting warmer and I have the sunburn to prove it. It is so nice to be able to go out in shorts and T shirt..especially since we would be trapped up north. Weather getting warmer and we are getting more comfortable as week goes along... can find ourself around town with less help from Iphone... not complicated...just bigger than any town in WV..flat and laid out simply.
Saturday...Went back to Gulfstream Park today (1/31) Wind blowing and temp about 71..slightly cool but not uncomfortable...stayed three hours and could have stayed longer...but weather supposed to get warmer and did not want to be lobsterized... back to room to watch end of WVU/Texas Tech game and nap...Had dinner at "Buds Chicken and Seafood". Never saw such a busy chicken house..cars back up and people lined up. Chicken good but still prefer the Col's and Bojangles.
Today we went back to Gulfstream...wind down some, temp up some...stayed there for about 5 hours..came back to snack and watch game... was nearly robbed of my sub by a seagull...never had one try to take it out of my hand before..I won.

Riggins Crab House...Lantana Fla.... first nite in town.... Excellent..clams, whole fish, shrimp, fish filet ,crab, and oyster.

Glass of wine on the beach...don't tell...windy but not uncomfortable..Stayed 3 hours and could have stayed longer but did not want to get lobsterized.

2/2/2015  Going to check out a new place on North Hollywood Beach... don't expect much but don't know until you try!!

*Got to Dunedin and Guys on 23

 Got to Dunedin and scouted out places to stay. Late on Friday so limited in time to look. Got some leads but were on the move and after a few contacts and some dinner went on to Bradenton where the Raines' live. stayed with them on the 23rd and 24th.
On Saturday Guy and Iris took us to Bradenton Beach and some other small beach towns and finished up with a super lunch at the "New Rod and Reel" in Santa Maria. Gooood lunch and happy to be with the Raines'.Left Bradenton Sunday morning the 25th and headed to Janie's and Ron's near Everglades City.

Had lunch here with Guy and Iris... VERY good. Town of Anna Maria.

Got to John and Linda's early afternoon and had lunch.. enjoyed being with them...nice people. Next morning we left for downtown Atlanta. Toured the Coke museum and lunch at the Varsity... good time and interesting afternoon... but we were on a mission and left John's about 4pm for Lake City Florida...John's directions got us around the busy traffic and we were on the way.
Stayed at Lake City, Fl arriving about 9pm... ready to go on the next morning.

Day 2 Jan. 19th and 20th.... Old Roomies Day

Got to Steve Holmes' and his lovely girlfriend Peggy on the 19th...got to spend a couple hours with her before Steve got home from golfing and was like she had been with us in college as well. Immediately hit it off..she's a wonderful girl... they deserve each other. Talked, drank wine and made drunk calls until midnite....Scott Harper and Mack were the recipients. Had a great day on the 20th eating and laughing. Hated to leave the next morning but Florida called.

*Day 1...Sunday Jan. 18th-19th

Off on our Florida adventure... heading to Knoxville to see Charles Kent... got there late afternoon and were pleasantly surprise to see Karla and Emily along with Charles' friend and our previous Kentucky Derby cohort Caroline. Had a great evening with lots of laughs and reminisces. Charles was off the next morning at our insistence to play golf. He had missed several days and loved the game... we did not want to be responsible for him missing more... a fun time catching up with him and his family.
